DS Trainers

The Womens Asics GEL-DS Trainer was first designed to be a superior lightweight trainer, with a greater cushioning and stability profile than a standard racing flat. Because of its highly responsive ride combined with its excellent levels of cushioning and support, the DS trainer is now, not just a training shoe but also is fast making an impression as a high quality racing shoe in the longer distance category including triathlon and Ironman events.

Runners who have the DS Trainer as their first choice of shoe gave very positive feedback for the previous model. So much so that Asics have retained the midsole/outsole of the DS 14. Subsequently the Asics developers focused nearly exclusively on the upper section of the shoe, using new materials and other weight saving strategies to enhance comfort, support and performance.

The GEL-DS Trainer 15 witnesses the introduction of Gill Mesh, a new sandwich mesh located in the quarter panels of the shoe. What this means is air passing from the outside of the shoe is forced inside to ventilate and keep the foot cool while running on those hot days. This results in a healthier and more comfortable in-shoe environment.

Some key benefits of the DS Trainer include:

Asymmetrical Lacing – resulting a more even spread of lacing tension giving the runner a greater feeling of comfort from the shoe

Advanced ComforDry sockliner – in addition to the Gill Mesh, helping to create a cooler, drier and healthier environment within the shoe

Female specific technology focused on the different needs supporting the foot throughout the gait cycle.

New forefoot design meaning increased grip and durability

Overall the DS Trainer is fast becoming a popular choice for female runners. Its lightweight nature as well as its increased comfort and design emphasis on cooling features has been well received. Any shoe that helps to keep our feet cooler on those hot roads in the middle of summer while racing has got to be a good thing in my opinion! The DS Trainer at under $100 is also great value for those of us who love the Asics brand but are looking for something lighter than the Kayanos.
